Matthew School Play

This afternoon I attended Matthew's school play "Jungle Book". Matthew had three different parts in the play. He was a wolf, a tree and an elephant. I made a video of part of the play. Matthew and his school friends did a great job. The play was really cute.

Spring

For Earth Day I walked around the yard and neighborhood and took a couple of pictures. One of my tulips and the other of trees in the neighborhood that are popping "popcorn". You know the song "Popcorn popping on the apricot tree". I believe spring has finally arrived. We cleaned up our yard from winter debris, and Leland pruned the trees. I painted the faded hopscotch which the neighborhood children and grand children like to use. Now I am in the process of deciding what flowers to plant next month. Floyd dug out the old raspberries that were not doing well, now we have to get the bed ready to plant tomatoes.

Ancestors

While it was raining and snowing this past week, I worked on another craft. I bought a basic kit, when I was at the Scrapbook Expo in March, and added my own pictures to it. The kit included a wood frame, a magnetic board with the tree on it and some wood square and round buttons.
I picked out the pictures I wanted to use and downloaded them to the company web site, www.storiesbyme.com. Their free web site was fun. it sizes the pictures for you. They have many projects you can do. You just load your pictures on their site and they size them and send them back to you via e-mail within minutes and you can save them and then print them out when you are ready. I decopodged all of the pictures, distressed them and used liquid chalk to stain the edges and give them a more antique look. The round and square buttons have magnets on the back of them. I also wrote the name and date of each ancestor on the back of their picture. It was a fun project. I think I might make another one of Floyd's family. Spring Flowers

The attached picture was taken in April or May of 2008, last year. This year the flowers haven't bloomed yet. It has been so snowy, rainy, and cold that the flowers are a bit late. I assume my yellow flowers will be in full bloom soon. The neighbors across the street have daffodils in their front yard, but the snow on top of them has them all bent over. In the mean time we stay inside where it is warm. We are, however, looking forward to LDS General Conference this week-end. Conference is always uplifting and inspirational.

The Pioneer wagon at the top is my reminder that on May 16th, I will be installed as the new President of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Davis Kaysville Company.
The small picture to the right is a collage photo of the DUP Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah and what is inside. There are three floors full of pioneer artifacts as well as a carriage house in the back. (There are only a few pictures of artifacts on their web site. It is only when you go to the museum to see the many pioneer artifacts in person, that you get a real feel for what the pioneers went through.) When I go there I spend hours looking around and thinking about what my ancestors went through to cross the plains in covered wagons and pulling handcarts and walking many miles to reach the Salt Lake Valley. Their trials and hardships were many. I love DUP and hearing the histories and stories of the pioneers and seeing the artifacts they brought with with. The pioneers had much faith , courage, fortitude and partiotism. I hope that I will be able to be a good leader and represent these couragous pioneers properly. Abbie's Swim Meet

In lane 9 (top of the screen) with the red swim cap, we have Abbie Tyler, age 12 in one of her many swim heat's over the past 3 days. She took 5th, 4th, and 1st. She did the 50 free style, the 200 IM relay and several other heats. During each race she improved her time. Their were lots of participants and many races. Abbie held her own and made us all proud. Way to go Abbie!

Arches 2009

The 17th of March was Floyd and my 42nd wedding anniversary. We celebrated by going to Arches. We left on the 14th and returned on the 18th. It was wonderful. The weather was nice and we spent one night at Red Cliff Lodge, (The Redrock Canyonlands around Moab). This is where the first pioneers settled around the west before finally venturing into the Moab Valley just over 100 years ago. There is a small pioneer cemetery on the hill above the lodge, with three graves. The origional ranch was called "White Ranch". It is also the area where many movies were made, such as, the 1949 Wagon Master, Rio Grande, Border River, Taza, Son of Cochise, Thelma and Louise, and many more. John W ayne and Maureen O'Hara were two of the many actors.
Floyd and I took a lot of pictures. I took 243 pictures and Floyd took 379. I am not very good with the video part of my camera but here is a picture and a short video that I took.
